Pontiac Repair: 97 pontiac transport wont start, fuel filler pipe, pontiac transport

Question
My 97 transport isn't starting. It recently began sputtering while idling and now isn't starting. I had the starter replaced and drove it about 100 miles and it quit again. It will not start at all.

Answer
Hi Heather:

I assume that the van cranks but will not start? what you were saying that it was spitting and sputtering I would lean towards looking at the fuel system on this van first. An easy test is this have someone turn the key to the run position and put you ear near the fuel filler pipe you should hear the pump run for about a second then turn off. If you don't hear anything the pump is not running and you will have to find out if the pump is bad or it doesn't have any power to it to make it run. If the pump runs then you need to make sure it has enough pressure to run. You will need a fuel pressure tester and check the pump pressure that van needs about 40 PSI of pressure to start and run. At least it's a place to start. Good luck :}
