Pontiac Repair: 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6, pontiac montana, warranty work

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6.  Recently while driving down the road the cd player seems to pop when moving the steering wheel.  It does not seem to happen while using the radio.  What could be causing this?

ANSWER: Hi James?

Does this van have the radio control buttons in the steering wheel? If so there could be an issue with one of those buttons or the wiring in the column. If it doesn't have that option then I really don't know of any thing that would be related to it other than maybe a bad connection at the radio or just a coincidence.

QUESTION: Yes it does have the radio control buttons on the steering wheel.  My wife said it really happens on the road when she uses the cruise control.  it is so bad she can hardly hear the cd at all because of all the popping and static.  Is there a way for me to check the connections myself?  We had taken the van in to have the buttons checked out because they did not always work like they should.  This was before the warranty went out.  Since we took it in for warranty work and they did not find anything would they look at it again for no charge or am I out of luck there now?

Thanks for the help Todd!

Answer
Hi James.

From what you said I'm thinking the issue is in the steering column either a bad button assembly or a bad SIR coil which is the wire that connects the steering wheel buttons to the car's wire harness. Ther is nothin you can check and if it's in the column you don not want to screw around with it bacuse the air bags are in the steering wheel. Take it back to the dealer if it's not to far out of warranty and it's the exact same issue you had before and you expalin it to them that way they may help you out or call the pontiac customer care # in your owners manual and they will set up a case for you and then take it back to the dealer and maybe they will at least help you out with the repair like maybe a 50/50 split Gm pays for the parts you pay for the labor.. It's worth a shot. Good luck.
