Pontiac Repair: 03 Pontiac Grand Am Headlight, screw driver, plastic nut

Question
I need to know how to change my headlight for myself.  I bought the lights and need to get them replaced.  If I can do this myself it would be great my husband is out of state right now and won't be home until Christmas.

Answer
Hi Susan:
Yes you can you will need a pair of pliers and a a small flat balde screw driver. open the hoodf and ovet the top of the headlights you will see a big black plastic cover use a pair of pliers and pull up on the center of all the plastic rivots holding them on ther  are 2 sizes of them the bigger ones go through the bumper cover and the small ones are towards the back. once you remove al of them pull the cover back towards the engine andf then up. now for the lamp. Ther are 2 metal spring clips that hold the lamp into the front headder panel. use a pair of pliers and pull up on the clip with one hand and use a screw driver on the front of the clip and the plastic that holds the lamp assembly in once out pull the lamp straight out and ther is a big plastic nut that holds the lamp in to the lamp. DO NOT TOUCH the new bulb with your fingers. the oil will make the bulb run hot and burnt out. reverse the procedure to put the lamp back in. When you put the lamp back in slide it in gently ther is a pocket that the plam has to slide into correctly for the clips to hold that lamp back in place. Good luck :)
