Question
QUESTION:       MY 87 GT 2.8LITER START BUT DO NOT KEEP THE IDLING????,DEAD EVERY TIME AFTER A SHORT START,THE CAR HAVE A NEWLY RECHARGED BATTERY AND A NEW STARTER.

ANSWER: Hey Rony:

you sort of lost me.. The battery died or dies after sitting and then it will not start/crank? or the battery is charged up it starts up but the idle goes crazy or really slow and then it stalls and will not restart? The idle issue could be from the battery going dead and the engine computer looses it's memory for idle conditions. That's a pretty normal thing. If you clean out the throttle plate and the idle control calve it should start and idle a bit goofy at first but then smooth it's self out. If the battery continues to keep going dead after sitting after a short period of time then you have to start looking for something that's not turning off when the car it shut down. Hope it helps?

AGAIN THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME ...RONY

Answer
Yes this is a common issue on these older cars. first off disconnect the battery. Take the rubber hose off between then throttle body and the air filter and clean the carbon off the inside of the throttle valve plate and inside the bore. The IAC "idle air control" valve is threaded into that throttle body I belive. It had a rather large connector on it with 4 wires it should have a big hex nut on the outside of it. unthread it and clean the tip of the valve off and also inside the bore where it goes. Use throttle body cleaner or carb. cleaner but GO EASY a little goes a long way. put everything back together and reconnect the battery. cycle the ignition key a few times from off to run and wait about 30 seconds each time from on to run. Then if the Park brake works on this car and it's an automatic transmission start the car and try to keep it running with very little throttle input if you let up on the gas and it continues to run set the park brake and put the car into drive foot off the service brake and let it sit and idle for about 10 minutes with the A/C off stay inside the car just incase it starts to roll. after it runs for that cycle turn the key off and let it sit for a minute and repeat this again for 5 minutes the computer should learn all of the idle parameters. If this is a manual trans car just let it run in neural for the 10 and 5 minute cycles. Hope that the computer is just "stupid" and that's all that's wrong but her could be a whole slue of other things with this engine as well like just basic tune up parts to a bad fuel pump to a stuck open EGR valve it goes on and on. But from what I gather in your short E-mail that it was fine until the Battery died? Hope that helped and good Luck :)
