Pontiac Repair: SES Light, fuel level sensor, national car care

Question
2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT engine code K.  I noticed my fuel gauge started being erratic.  I was told by the local Pontiac dealer that it was the fuel level sensor in the tank.  I opted not to have the repairs done because of the cost.  They told me that the SES light would probably keep coming on because of this.  Well, it just came on again and I was wondering if this sounds accurate to you.  If so, can I just reset a fuse or something to make the light go off?  I'd rather just keep filling my tank and resetting the trip odometer to know how many miles I can go instead of paying $400 to get it fixed.  Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

Answer
Hi
I would go have the computer scanned, and get the codes JUST in case it is not the DTC's for the fuel sensor.
I did look, also and I do NOT see any codes that would set for the Level sensor unless the p0462, p0463 MIGHT set if the tank pressure sensor does not jive with the level sensor.
My advice, take it to a major national car care center (Meineke, Pepboys, Firestone, Midas) OR a major chain parts store (Autozone, Advance, NAPA, etc..) MOST offer free Computer scans.
If you get the codes, and want to , please follw post back.
Thanks
Hope this helps
JUST advice from experience
Good Luck
