Porsche Repair: clutch vibration, clutch plate, clutch assembly

Question
I have an 83 930 with a power haus mods. The clutch is the 8 puck type. When ever I come off the line I get a vibration or shutter. Do you think this is normal?
Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Walter...

I'm not familiar with the "Power haus" clutch assembly specifically, because I'm not lucky enough to be a 911 guy...but the answer to your question is definitely, No.  Any vibration or shudder should be viewed as abnormal.

You don't say how long you've had the clutch in service or what it acted like before, but I assume this is a newer development.

Usually, this symptom is caused by one of a couple things:

1.  oil or grease on the clutch plate lining
2.  Burned or glazed clutch plate lining
3.  warped pressure plate
4.  less like but possible: worn or loose trans/engine mounts

The top three situations all require pulling the engine to see what's up...so you'll have to decide just how "bad" the situation is.
