Porsche Repair: concerning the needle valves, pointed needle, needle valves

Question
I recently ordered a carbuetor kit for a 1966-67 912 Porsche and the new needle valves are pointed in the new kit but the needle valves in the old carbeutor kit are blunt. My questions is will the new pointed needle valve seat in the old carbuetor where the old needle valves are blunt? Will appreciate any info you can give me on this. Thanks

Answer
Hi Forrest,

When you say the old kit had blunt needle valves...this is incongruous.  Needle valves are always as the name sounds..pointed as sharply as they can be.

Two things to consider:

1.  sharply pointed needle valves wear out--toward a less sharp condition...so maybe you have the right replacement kit.
2.  if you have the wrong kit, that would be unusual.

Your question about whether the needles will seat is absolutely the right question.  The right way to check would be to fill the opposite side of the orifice  and see if there is any leakage.  Conceivably, the seat is corroded.
If so, there would be leakage and the seat would need to be dressed.

Good questions.  Let me know if I can be of further help.
