Porsche Repair: 89 944 Turbo Rear Wiper Alignment, rear window wiper, arid climate

Question
I have a 944 Turbo that has the rear window wiper that overshoots the stop position by 2 inches. The blade will sit there hanging over the window curve until I manually place it back in the vertical position. Thankfully, I have no other reason to take the car in for any other problems and if this is a simple fix or R&R I would like to do this myself.

Answer
Tony,

Wiper motors have limit switches inside that allow the arms to be energized after the wipoer switch has been turned off, thereby allowing the arm to return home, or to its limit.  What appears to be happening is the limit contacts, which are supposed to turn off the arm. are closing too late.

If it were me I'd probably take the motor ou, try to diddle around with it for a while, then try a trial an error method to get the blade to act normally.  Eventually, I'd do the smart thing, buy the new motor.

OK...so I just checked the price of a new motor...$297.  Yikes.   Maybe I'd diddle around with the switch a bit longer or maybe I'd  move to an arid climate.

If you decide to uproot the family, don't tell them where you got the idea.  Good luck.
