RV Repair: onan generator, hvac mechanic, piston ring

Question
my generator starts and runs well. question is there seems to be an oil "spray" pattern on the ground when its been running a while. i would like to learn to check the oil and wonder if this is "normal"? this is a winnebago super cheif 86 model. thank you in advance for any help. btw i am a hvac mechanic and very mechnically inclined. i can build motors etc.

Answer
Hi Doug
Oil outside the Gen while its running is never normal.
The "dip stick" should be in plain view, usually it is the fill cap. But you didn't tell me which model gen. I presume its a Emerald 4.0 with high hours ands sounds like piston ring blow-by. And it has a low oil sensor and turn itself off when the oil gets low.
