RV Repair: dometic fridge, refrigerator section, roof vent

Question
It a dometic fridge and we have to run on gas. The burner is running and heating the pipe assembly all the way to the top. The fridge takes a long time to cool, and make ice. I am wondering if it needs to be turned upside down and left to stand for a few days? There has been no smell of ammonia that I have been aware of
Thanking you in advance

Question -
I have an older fridge 2 way, it was working fine earlier this season. Now it takes for ever to cool down (over 24 hours) and is not really cold. I checked the roof vent for blockage, there was none. I am puzzled now!!! Any ideas

Hi Bruce:

Are you running the refrigerator on gas or electricity? What is the lowest temperature that can be obtained in the freezer, and refrigerator section? What is brand of refrigerator, also need model number. Have you tried both energy sources to find out if one cools any better than the other? When operating on LP, how does the flame on main burner appear to be?

Bruce, I will be awaiting a response to these questions. I will do all I can to assist you. Have you smelled ammonia in the freezer or refrigerator sections?

Answer
Hi Bruce:

Thanks for following up on progress of refrigerator.

I have a few questions for you. Which area of the country do you now live. Has the outside temperature been higher than normal, like it has been for most all of us on the eastern side of us? I would like for you to check a few things and record the results:

1. Measure the entering air temperature entering the refrigerator, 2. Measure the air tempature leaving the exhaust on the roof, be sure the bottom panel is in place for 10 minutes. 3. Feel the line leaving the bottom of the condenser, and let me know how hot it feels. To be accurate, one would need a tempature gun, but not too many rv owners have one..LOL. (4) Do you have any small electrical fans blowing air into, across or exiting the roof, that are used to help cool down the coil tempatures.
(5) Please measure and record the temperatures of the refrigerator, and the freezer, and state how long this refrigerator has been turned on.(6) Did the refrigerator function ok before the hot weather? IF not, how long has it been cooling improperly? (7) Does this refrigerator have your power converter located underneath?

After I review this info, I can better assist you.
