RV Repair: replacing entire back wall and ceiling, coachman travel trailer, interior damage

Question
We just bought a 1975 Coachman travel trailer and his description said leaks repaired but minor interior damage. Well the entire back of the trailer is rotten, and crumbling in our fingers.  (and still leaking) My question is, after we fix the leak, what kind of a job is it going to be to replace this wall and ceiling?  It is the bathroom and a closet and where do we begin?

Answer
Honestly, is sounds like you have bought a project trailer.

Rebuilding the walls and ceiling can be very time consuming, but with patience and a lot of effort, if you plan to do the work yourself, you can breathe life back into this trailer.

First you need to get everything out of your way in the area that needs work.  If you plan on keeping the floor covering/ carpet, vinyl, cover it with a tarp or something.  After you have done this, start tearing out the panels from the inside in the suspected rotten area (floor and ceiling) this way you know how bad the structure damage is.

If this is a metal sided trailer, and there is substantial structure damage, you may need some place to put the trailer inside a shop for the rest of the repairs.
