RV Repair: Slide not working, hydrolics, coachmen

Question
I have a 2004 coachmen 526rls. The slide has stopped working. It started getting slower and slower and has now stoped. My rv is all electric no hydrolics. Does the slide only work off of the battery or should it work when I have regular power? It will not work using regular power or battery. I think my batteries are bad.

Answer
Hi Jonathan:
The slide motor works on 12 volts DC off your house batteries. They must be fully charged for the slide to work correctly. When you plug in to 115 volt AC power there is a charger that starts to charge the house batteries but it will take some time to charge before the slide will work. If you can put a voltmeter on the house battery while you are connected to AC the battery voltage should be around 14 volts then. If it is not you need to have the charging circuit checked out. The house battery will be hooked to the engine battery when the engine is running, you could try the slide with the engine running also it will give you some clue as to what is happening, good luck.
