RV Repair: Suburban RV water heater, suburban water heater, water tank

Question
I have a model SW6D Suburban water heater in my motorhome. We went out for the first time this season and the heater was short-cycling. It would call for heat and ignite. However, it would only burn for about 15 seconds or so then shut off. A couple of seconds later, it would re-light and burn for 15-20 seconds and shut off. It was doing this continually. I have plenty of gas and all other appliances worked properly. Any ideas what to look for?

Answer
David,
Are you sure that the water heater is not bypassed?  What you are describing usually happens when the water tank is empty and all that is being heated is the air in the tank.  If it was a failure by the igniton board to see te flame it shouldn't relight itself unless it has a newer circuit board.  If that is the case it should run through that cycle three times and then go into lockout.  I hope this helps.
