Saturn Repair: grinding while stopping in 2000 SL2, ballpark idea, brake job

Question
When my car is coming to a stop or moving at very low speed(under 10) there is a grinding sound being made.  When i speed up or apply the breaks at higher speed there is no sound nor if the engine is idling.  Whats could be the problem and how much is this likely to cost(ballpark idea of the cost would be great).

Answer
James,
At first glance it sounds like you need a new set of front brake pads.  I have known Saturn brakes to make no sound at higher speeds, and then sound like a railroad train comming to a hault at lower speeds.  My first suggestion is that you go to Midas (they don't cost as much as the dealership and do good brake work).  Have them inspect your brake linings and rotors.  They shouldn't charge you to look at your brakes.  If you pay more than $150 for a brake job, you've been taken.  Anyway, if you have already done this just let me know.  We can take this chase in another direction.
