Saturn Repair: Car jerks when moving, spray lubricant, aluminum intake

Question
My car idles a little rough but doesn't conk out (yet).  When I put it into drive and hit the gas, my car keeps jerking like it has no oxygen or like the plugs are misfiring.  When I get to around 60 or higher, it rides fine.
I checked my air filter and it seems fine.  I checked my transmission fluid - my levels are good.  A friend suggested a tune up.
What do you think?

Answer
Hi Jim,
This is a common one for Saturns. While you don't mention what model or year you have...if it is a 1991-1998 SL1 or SL2, SC1, SC2, or SW1, SW2, then I have an answer for you.
The problem occurs 90% of the time because the fuel injectors get clogged along with other parts of the fuel system getting grunged up. At half tank of gas (not full) add on bottle of Fuel injector clear to the gas tank.  Also, with the car running, take off the air filter cover and spray carb cleaner into the air intake...it will want to die but have someone keep the car running.  Also, spray the carb cleaner all around the throttle body intake where the rubberr boot meets the aluminum intake including the linkages for the cables.  Then, after that, spray lubricant around the  intake throttle body to free up the linkages and the cables.  You changed the plugs and that is good.  BUT, the wires my be deteriorated and causeing a misfire or low spark.  You can change them for about $20. Once all is done, it should start idling and running at lower speed much better. THe Fuel injector cleaner will start working to clean it out before the rest of that half tank of gas is gone!  Adding a second bottle the next time you are at half tank is recommended.  Also, buy the inexpensive injector clearner...it works as well as the other, more expensive stuff! (I get 16 oz. bottlefor $99 at AutoZone!)
Thanks for the question,
