Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler connecting rod bolts

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I am installing a used connection rod in to a Kohler K301 12hp engine. The manual has two different bolts for the connecting rod. one is a Posi-lock and the other a capscrew. How can I tell which ones I have?
Also it says if using capscrews, to over-torque them by 20% then loosen them and re-torque to the number. Is there a chance I could strip the threads in the connection rod?
Thanks, Robert

Does the rod have studs already inserted?

QUESTION: No they have bolts.

Answer
Based on the first URL, Capscrew type rod bolts are the ones that screw into the upper part of the rod. Posi-locks have a nut with a stud in the upper part of the rod.

Sound like you have the capscrew type.
