Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD Rider leaking gas from Carb, kawasaki engine, needle valve

Question
I have a John Deere LX289 Rider 17HP Model 289A101914 with a kawasaki engine that is leaking gas from the small black hose on the carburetor.  Is the float in the carb the problem or is the valve needle possibly no good?

Answer
Most likely the needle valve inside the carb...float is probably plastic and rarely fail.

There may just be some dirt or water in you fuel system causing the needle not to seal.

Do you have a fuel shut-off valve in the fuel line or mounted on the fuel tank?
