Question
QUESTION: I have a Honda generator EB6500sx Engine# SHN389UIG2RA CARB# 87AAJE7 The problem is that it will only run with choke on the voltage is good.I cleaned and blew out carb it was dirty was not used in few years. On bottom of carb fuel bowl where high speed jet would be is a solenoid that was frozen I cleaned it. There is a switch on front panel to run generator full speed (off or auto)
which it idles and automatically speed up to handle load.If I put switch to auto it idles with choke off as soon as i put load on generator stalls unless I put choke on.

ANSWER: I supsect the carbs high speed circuit is still dirty.  I have had to clean some carbs up to 3 times to get them clean.

While not recommended in the repair manual, because damage to the carb can occur, you can run a piece of wire through the carb orfices to make sure they are clean.  I use simple stranded automotive wire, just strip back the insulation and use one strand of the wire.

Let me know if cleaning the carb again helps.

QUESTION: Eric
I cleaned carb 4 times and cleaned orfices with wire before I wrote to you.Do you know how that solenoid valve works. It was frozen I cleaned it.
It has the inner rod that looks like a needle valve attached to it with a spring and looks like it controls fuel. Is it posible that when I cleaned it I ruined it.would you know how to test it.

Answer
If the solenoid is mounted on the bottom of the carb it is the fuel shut-off solenoid.  The solenoid closes the main fuel tube when you shut-off the engine.  The intent of the solenoid is to prevent back-firing.  Most repair manuals have you test the solenoid with a 9 volt battery.  You are just verifying it clicks and the needle moves.  If the solenoid was not opening the engine would not start.

How many wires are on the solenoid?  One or two?
