Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): belts on rototiller, drive belts, wheelhorse

Question
my father in law has an older rototiller that my husband is trying to get running and we can't find online any manuals or diagrams to show how the belts are thread on this thing.  Help.  It's a Gilson rototiller, model # GIL 1565 G,  serial # 7277B1 414.  Thank you so much.

Answer
Below are several sites that might help.  First thing to do is to be sure you have the correct length belt.  As a rule of thumb when you do not have the belt routing always start with the engine pulley.  This pulley should be a V pulley.  The V part of the belt goes inside the V on V pulleys.  There will almost always be two V pulleys, one on the engine and one on the transmission input.  In between these 2 v pulleys there is usually an idler pulley.  Idler pulleys usually have a flat face.  The flat part of the belt rides on the flat pulley.  Looking at the pulleys, V or flat face, should provide a good starting point for identifying how the belt is routed.  Keep in mind most idler pulleys have an adjustment for loosening or tightening the belt but this adjustment is small so make sure you have the correct belt length.

Drive belts, see these site:
