Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Toro Snowthrower Spring Traction Disengage, toro snow thrower, assembly drawings

Question
QUESTION: Hello John,

I have a Toro Snow Thrower Model 38035 serial # 6001758.  The traction control will not disengage.  The wheels turn no matter what.  I believe it is because the spring traction disengage spring is broken and plan to order a new one.  The one end is just hanging there and the hook part on the end is for the most part gone.  When I pull on thie spring with pliers the wheels will disengage but I don't know where this hook on the end of the spring is supposed to connect to?  I can't find it in any diagrams.  Thanks for any help.

ANSWER: Hello Wayne:

>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/default.cfm and Select Start Parts Viewer. Now Enter the Model Numbers (38035) and Click Search. Now Select View Assembly Drawings for your Year Model.
>>The Breakdown of the Traction Assembly Shows the Traction Drive Spring (#15 - Part #37-8880) should be Connected to a Slot in the Sliding Bracket (#14).
>>If you Hit a Snag, have More Questions or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

QUESTION: Thanks for the quick response, John! I did find the drawing you directed me to on some other site.  The end that connects to #14 is the end that is still connected, so I know where that goes.  I am asking about the other end of the spring?  Sorry I wasn't clear.

Answer
Hello Agan Wayne:

>>No Worries. It Happens All the Time.
>>Follow the Traction Control Lever Linkage to the End.
>>Some of these Units have Solid Linkage All the Way to the Traction Spring and Others Use a Cable Attached to the Solid Linkage at the Control Handle.
>>The Solid Linkage or Cable should have an Eyelet that the Spring Attaches to so that it will Pull the Spring when the Traction Lever is Moved.
>>If the Linkage or Cable is Connected to the Sliding Bracket, then
>>The Spring will Attach to the Frame using a Slot or Eye Bolt that Allows the Spring to Pull the Sliding Bracket in a Non Binding Manner.
>>I have Repaired Both Types of Traction Systems and Usually the Spring is Connected to the Frame using a Slot.
>>As Always, If you Hit a Snag, have More Questions or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.
