Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cub Cadet HDS 2135, electrical diagnostics, electrical tester

Question
I have a cub cadet HDS 2135, tonight the PTO cut off and won't re engage, I took off the deck, checked the blades and belts. Engine starts fine, is there a switch that could have gone bad, or do you think it is the clutch to the PTO? I would like to try some things at home first before sending it to the shop. Thanks -
Sheri

Answer
Unless you have an electrical tester and some experience with electrical diagnostics, I won't really be able to help. In order to find out if it's the pto, unplug the pto, engage the parking brake, turn the key to the on position with the engine off, pull the pto switch out, and test the ground to the pto to see if there is one. It always has positive polarity, the switch provides ground.
