Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman automatic tranny issue, clutch pedal, belt tension

Question
I have a Craftsman rider model number 917.270722, it will not pull a hill unless the automatic tranny is in high (fastest setting), it is like that in forward and reverse, and in forward on a slow speed it will move, but just barely, not like it use to, is there something I can do to fix this problem? The transmission has hydro gear on it with these numbers 319-0650 ( I think that is what they say)

Answer
Hopefully it's just the belt slipping.  With the engine off and the clutch released, check the motion belt tension.  If it's not tight, or the belt is glazed or cracked, replace it.

You can try pulling backwards on the clutch pedal when pulling a hill.  If you notice an improvement, then probably the belt needs replacement.

An internal transmission problem would be more than I could work with in this sort of forum.  Thanks, PK.
