Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): riding mower gushing gas, auto parts store, rubber hose

Question
John Deere S82 (M00S82X291129 with engine serial number 91707-5852-01-84030112).  Used twice this season already.  Trouble starting this time and noticed gas pouring from where rubber hose attaches to carburetor.  Rubber hose is very loosely attached (surely this isn't OK?).  Only way to stop gas leak is with fuel shut-off valve.  Is there something missing that holds the rubber hose on tightly?  (As you can probably tell, I have no understanding of how the gas flow is supposed to be regulated, where it is supposed to be going, etc.)  What to do?

Answer
Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): riding mower gushing gas, auto parts store, rubber hose
carb
The fuel flow is regulated inside the carb, by a little float that shuts off the flow when the bowl is full.  The is a loose fitting
hose going to the air cleaner, that comes from the engine's breather,
and a much more substantial hose from the fuel tank.  From the
age of the engine, the fuel line could definitely be shot and need replaced, a new length of hose could be bought at an auto parts store.
Here is a pic of the carb and tank {blown up}, let me know what you find.
