Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): compression release, compression release, push rods

Question
Eric, the type no is1135-e1. I set the valves:intake .003: exhaust .005 with piston a quarter inch past tdc compression. may be carbon build up. plug had carbon on it.
the model is28N707.       thanks    Bob

Answer
The valves are set correct.  The manual shows two different cams, one before late Aug 98 and one after late Aug 98.  Just by looking at the picture one of the cams has a spring loaded compression release.  It is possible the compression release is broke but it does not happen too often.

Did you check the push rods to see if they are straight?  Did you check the flywheel key?
