Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): I am not getting any spark on a K301 Kohler, ada michigan, suzuki engine

Question
QUESTION: I am not getting any spark on a K301 Kohler. Spec 47606.  I have put in new points, plug, push rod, condenser, coil, and coil wire; however I am not getting any ignition.  Where should I go from here?

ANSWER: First off, Make sure the point are closing completely and making a good contact.  Run a piece of clean white paper through point to remove any oil from them, this may be a problem.

Remove the ground wire on the coil, This is the wire that runs to the key switch.  Now crank the engine over and see if you have spark  You may have a bad kill switch/starter switch or interlock switch.

What we have done by disconnecting that ground wire is essentially separated the engine from the application and ruled out if its an interlock switch, etc causing you the problem.

Let me know what you find

QUESTION: Good Morning David,
I would like to verify that I am placing the wire from the condenser to the right post on the coil.  Is it the negative or the positive to which this wire should be attached?  Also, I have just purchased a Baja 6.5 engine to place on a Simplicity walk behind tractor.  I am told that this is a Suzuki engine.  Is this a reliable motor, and are parts available.

Answer
Roger I cant remember exactly, give me some time and ill find a book and get you the answer.  The BAJA engine, I am unsure, can you get me a picture of it.  the BAJA name is now American Motorsports and they are made in China.  Check the EPA tag on the engine and give me the information.  Perhaps you will see a name such as LONCIN, LIFAN, SUZHO, etc.....

Thanks David
