Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): motor die out when uner load, john deer, compression check

Question
have old (20years) john deer snowthrower that die out under load. its a 8 hp P.M.. i think the motor is tecumseh. have ask friends and they say carburetor (took bowl off looked clean)bad valve seats or poor compression.

Answer
ave to first start by doing a compression check. Compression should be around 90psi. If it is then you have to check to determine if it s electronic type ignition, or older points and condenser. You failed to furnish me with a proper engine model or type number, so I don't know which ignition it has, more than likely it has no points, and condenser. With that said, I would point towards a full carb rebuild......Tom
