Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere 180 carburator problem, kawasaki dealer, wire tie

Question
My John Deere 180 lawn tractor (FC54OV, Kawasaki eng.) has developed a flooding problem. When I try to crank the engine, gas pours from the bottom of the carburator bowl. Is there a repair kit for this and is it something that someone with fair mechanical ability can do?

Answer
Yes a carburetor and fuel pump rebuild kit is available.  You should be able to put them up from any Kawasaki dealer.  Remove the carb disassemble it and clean it use a wire from a wire tie to clean all the air and fuel passages pull them out with carburetor cleaner or compressed air.  Install the kit and reassemble.  Remount the carburetor using new mounting gaskets.  You should find your problem along this troubleshooting path.  Best of luck.
