Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): torque settings on Briggs & Stratton, briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton

Hi Steve:
I've got a JohnDeere generator with a 342cc 1650 series Briggs & Stratton engine.  The exhaust valve stuck open.
After cleaning the valve, I find that the gen. manual has
no repair info in it.  Could you tell me what the torque
should be on the head bolts and the machine screws that hold the rockers on?  Thank You

Hi Terry,
As for the rocker arms and their machine screws, tighten them so that you cannot move them with you fingers, but the engine can. The head bolts need to be tightened considerably with a wrench or a ratchet. No exact torque figures needed, unless this is for high performace or racing.
