Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Stratton backfire, briggs stratton, valve clearances

Question
I recently reset the valves on my B&S model # 28N707 Type 017301, code 96051320 to .004 on the intake and ,008 on the exhaust. Now when the engine is hot and I restart it it backfires. How can I solve this problem?

Answer
Hello Greg:

Close the Exhaust Valve Clearance to .005in. The .002in Clearance is Enough for the Compression Release to Stay Open too Long and Cause the Backfire. The Valve Clearances for this is are .004in and .004in. Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
