Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere LX 178, john deere lx, ac volts

Question
Sir-

Hello again! I did what you said. I cleaned the grounding strap to see if that would change my electric PTO auto turn on problem. It did not. So, I changed the battery. It needed it regardless. That did not help. I unplugged the power wire to the electric PTO, and it still comes on. Any other ideas?

Also, I need to troubleshoot the charging system. I replaced the bulb for the battery light when I replaced the battery. The light is constantly on. I have a factory book for the lawn tractor. It has a pretty in-depth trouble shooting tree. Do you know of any "common failures" so I don't have to continue my Ph.D. in electronics?

Not sure if you can answer two questions.

Thanks for all your help.

Answer
Hello Again Phil:

If you have the PTO Electrical Connection Disconnected from the PTO and the PTO Still Engages, then the PTO is Bad and Requires Replacing. For Testing the Electrical (Charging) System on Mowers you can Use this Site Addy; http://faqs.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faqs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3438&p... and Use the Link for AC Volts/DC Amps Meter Setting Chart. This is for Briggs Engines and Works Well for Kohler, JD and Other Engine OEMs. This Engine has a Ststor Only and No Regulator. If the Voltage at the Battery is Lower than 10.5VDC when the Engine is Running at Full Throttle, then the Stator Requires Replacing. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
