Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): rebuilt 8HP carb, log splitter, fuel valve

Question
I recently rebuilt the carb on a 8HP briggs.Ran good for awhile but then I started to adjust bottom(NEW) fuel valve I believe? then other screw on side I think air adj. What is the basic settings for these two screws? Its on an old log splitter.Older motor too.
Thanks

Answer
The bottom screw is for the run circuit in the carburetor you are adjusting fuel flow through the main jet.  The screw on the side of the carburetor is for the idle circuit.

The initial setting on the bottom screw should be turn the screw in until it lightly seats then back out 1 & 1/2 turns.  Seat the side screw likely and back out 1 turn.  Start the engine let it come up to operating temperature and then it just the main jet turn the screw in until the engine falters back the screw out until the engine floods and then put the screw halfway between.  Then put the engine on the idle and adjust the side screw until the engine runs properly.

I hope I helped
