Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MTD will not turn over with ignition switch, safety switches, brake switch

Question
Here is the mower. Yardman (MTD) 42" 17.5 horse engine Model Number 13A6695G118.First the engine would not turn over with ignition switch. i jumped across the solenoid and it ran but when I went to start it next week it will not start. I have replaced the ignition switch, Solenoid, Fuse. And still will not start. It will still turn over as long as I jump across the solenoid but still will not start. I am at wits end please help.

Answer
Have you checked all of your safety switches on this model? I suspect your getting no spark across the plug when your jumping it over the solenoid. You must trouble shoot this as a no start condition, checking spark, and then fuel. Safety switches to check would be, the clutch or brake switch, reverse blade engaged switch, seat switch. Have you also checked any, and all fuses in the system?  Go to the MTD website there you will be able to find a wiring diagram in the service manuals. Then if your condition is one of no spark you will have to trace out the diagram finding where the spark or power is stopping. I sure would be suspecting a safety switch, or fuse.....Tom
