Can I use jack hydrualic oil in my craftsman hydrostatic mower?

I would say no.  Depending on the year you may be able to drain the system and use 10W30 in some units.  Others use Mobil 424.  Go to an auto parts store and ask if they have an equivalent chart and see what other companies equivalent for 454 are.  Call Sears and ask for service and order a can from them.  

The reason I would say no is that jack fluid is a little thin and will not take the heat. If nothing else at all is available use ATF, automatic transmission fluid.
