Question
Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S gas Trimmer/edger no spark, rotary corporation, briggs and stratton
trimmer
Hi A wile ago I found a B&S trimmer at the dump. it needed work so I cleaned it up. cleaned out the carb, air filter and gas tank.so today I tried to start it, but it wouldn't start, so i sanded the flywheel magnet and tried again, but nothing. I even used an old spark plug that I know has a spark, but it wouldn't spark
what should I do?
do you need the part numbers etc.?

Answer
Hello Matthew:

From your Description and from Viewing the Picture you Sent, it Sounds like the Point Set has a Bad Condenser. The Looks to be an Older McLane Edger with a Briggs and Stratton Engine. Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug. I Suggest for the Older Engine with the Point Set that the Point Set be Eliminated by Using the Nova ll Ign Module (Rotary #8786) By Rotary Corporation. Most Small Engine Service Center Deal with Rotary Corporation and can Order this Component for you. By Using the Nova ll you Do Not have to Remove the Flywheel of the Engine. You Cut the Wires from the Coil to the Point Set as the Instruction Sheet of the Nova ll Shows and Bolt the Nova ll to the Engine. You can Also Purchase the More Expensive Ign Coil from Briggs. With the Ign Coil (Solid State Ign Designed into the Coil) you Remove the Old Coil and Cut the Wire Going to the Point Set Under the Flywheel and then Install the Ign Coil and Gap it to .020in from the Flywheel. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
