Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): ryobi ss30, screw the screw, piston damage

Question
Hi, I have a ryobi ss30 string trimmer model # RY30951 that the pull string will not coil anymore. It looks as if it has gotten off track and can be fixed rather than replaced. I have taken most of it apart, but cannot figure out how to get the metal spindle? off in order to take the rest of the housing off that covers the rope once it is inside the housing. The piece i am trying to get off has a hex screw in the middle, if you turn this screw, the rope will coil and uncoil depending on which way you turn it. It will move up and down about a 1/16 of an inch but that is it. Any idea how to get it off and then back on? thanks for any input...

Answer
Hello Steve:

You can View a Breakdown of this Unit at this Site Addy; http://www.ryobitools.com/parts and Select "Go to Ryobi Outdoor Parts Store". Now Select "Repair Parts Catalog". Select I Agree to Terms. Now Enter the Model Numbers and Click Search. Now Double Click on you Model in the Results Area. Select the Figure "B" File.  We can Use the Breakdown Located at this Site for Reference. If I Understand the Question Correctly, you Need to Stop the Engine from Turning so you can Remove the Screw. The Screw should have a Female Torx Head. To Stop the Engine from Turning. The Following is a Basic Instruction File I made for Blocking a Trimmer or Chain Saw Engine from Turning.  Remove the Spark Plug and Use a Bolt the Same Diameter and Threads as the Spark Plug and About 3" Long. Thread the Bolt into the Spark Plug Hole Until it Engages the Piston. Slowly Tighten the Bolt Until you have Locked the Piston and it Does Not Move. **BE CAREFUL A LOT OF TORQUE IS NOT REQUIRED PISTON DAMAGE CAN OCCUR IF TO MUCH TORQUE IS USED ON THE STOP BOLT** If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
