Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Personal Pace recycler stops when cutting the grass., blown head gasket, briggs and stratton

Question
QUESTION: Hi John,
I have 8 yrs old Toro 21" Personal Pace Recycler Mower HP-6.00 GTS, Model # 20022 Briggs and Stratton. I see another # 99-6013 have no idea about this number. I replaced carburator last yesr because RPM was slow and was stopping in between when cutting the grass. I have the same Problem it looks like it has not up to his original RPM and still stops when we cut the large Grass.
Please advise what should we do?

Regards,
Arvinder Gill

ANSWER: Hello Arvinder:

From your Description it Sounds like the Coil/Ign Module May be Bad or the Engine has a Blown Head Gasket. You Say it is Stopping when Cutting Large Grass. Do you mean the Engine Quits and will Not Restart or is the Mower Just have Trouble Running? Can you Explain in More Detail what the Mower is Doing? Thanks.

Respectfully

John

QUESTION: Hi John,

Thanks for the reply.

Engine only stops when I cut a Grass. It's RPM gradually slows down while cutting the Grass and stops due to lack of RPM or big grass. I used to cut the same size of grass before without any problem.

If grass is small it cuts fine but still it has low RPM as used to be.

Mower starts at once by pulling rope once. It seems like it has RPM issue when cutting the Grass. Also I have to walk very slow when cutting the Grass to avoid shutting down the Engine.

Please advise.

ANSWER: Hello Again Arvinder:

Have you Checked the Muffler for Blockage. Remove the Muffler, Wear Ear Protection and Operate the Mower Long Enough to Determine if the Muffler being Off the Engine Returns the Power to the Engine. If it Does Help, then Replace the Muffler. Did you Remove or Loosen the Governor Control Arm from the Governor Shaft when you Changed the Carburetor?  If you Removed/Loosened the Governor Arm to Remove the Carburetor, then Reset the Governor. **To Reset the Governor; Loosen the Governor Arm Bolt and Turn the Governor Shaft Clockwise Until it Stops. Using the Governor Arm Hold the Carburetor to Full Throttle. Now with the Shaft Full Clockwise and the Governor Arm and Carburetor Held at Full Throttle, Tighten the Governor Arm Bolt. If the Engine Still Runs Full Throttle, then Reverse the Rotation of the Governor Shaft, but Still Hold the Carburetor at Full Throttle with the Governor Arm. If it Still Runs at Full Throttle, then Check the Internal Governor.** You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/default.cfm and Select Start Parts Viewer. Now Enter the Model Numbers. Now Select View Assembly Drawings. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

QUESTION: Hi John,

I did adjust the Governor Shaft Clockwise Until it Stopped.
Now it's RPM is too high. I am scared to operate it now.

Answer
Hello Again Arvinder:

If you Followed the Instructions I Sent, then Turn the Governor Shaft the Opposite Direction (Counter Clockwise) During the Governor Setting Procedure. This will Set the Governor Shaft Arm Against the Internal Governor and then the Engine should Idle and Rev Properly. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.
