Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Another tiller question, vent holes, vent hole

Question
I finally got my tiller running. Did as you said and made sure the starting ratchet was very tight. I did that and no more sheared flywheel keys, and the engine starts with one pull of the rope.

This afternoon while in the garden with the tiller, I noticed a wet spot on the "deck", under the gas tank. It was gasoline, not oil.

I wiped it off and within a few minutes the "deck" was wet again. I couldn't see or feel anything on the gas line. The wetest area seemed to be on top of the gas tank, especially around the fill cap.

Is there suppse to be a gasket inside the gas cap? My snowblower gas tank cover has a gasket. I never noticed one on the tiller.

Also, I can clearly see through one vent hole in the gas cap, but it looks like there are 4. If they are clogged would it somehow cause the fuel to leak around the cap?

Answer
Hi Jerry:

I am Glad you Finally got it Running. The Gas Cap Should have a Cardboard Like Cover/Gasket that Covers the Complete Inside of the Cap. This Prevents the Sloshing Gas from Exiting the 4 Vent Holes in the Cap and Seals the Cap to the Tank. Sometimes there is a Round Foam Section Placed between the Cardboard and the Cap. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
