Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Murray 30577X8A, safety switches, limit switches

Question
Hi,

I have inherited this Murray rear engined mower ride on mower. I have no manual for it and I have no clue how to start it. I believe it has at least three safety switches. One is under the seat but I wondered if you know where are the others? Also, is the switch under the seat a make or break connection to start the mower?

Answer
Hello Martin:

Usually on MTD Model Mowers the Seat Switch is Used to Break a Ground Connection that Stops the Ign Module/Coil from Firing the Plug/s. The Clutch Safety, Blade Engagement Safety and the Neutral Safety (used on Some Models instead of the Clutch Safety) Prevent the Engine Starter from Engaging Unless they are in the Off/Neutral/Depressed Position. Go to this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (Murray) and Enter the Model Numbers (30577X8A). Then Double Click on your Model in the Results Area. Then Select the Section of the Unit you Wish to View. Select the Electrical System File. The Limit Switches are the Blade and Clutch Safety Switches. These are Different from the Seat Switch. These Switches Contact to Make the Circuit so the Starter will Engage. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
