Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Removing Mower Deck Pulleys, deck spindles, mild heat

Question
Have a Deere 46" mower deck off a 318. Want to restore the deck and need to get the pulleys off the spindles without ruining them.  Have wrecked a couple of others in the past trying to get them off.  Seems to be no good way to get a puller on most of these.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Neil:

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select your Model. Then Select the Attachments File. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. Select the Mower Deck Spindles, Jacksheave and Blade File. Once the Nut (#1) has been Removed; Use PB Rust Catalyst Around the Spindle Bolt/Shaft and Allow it to Set for a Few Hours. Re-Applying PB a Few More Times During the Wait will Help Also. Use a Drift Punch and Hit the Spindle Bolt/Shaft a Few Times. If the Spindle Bolt/Shaft Does Not Move, then Apply Mild Heat to the Center of the Pulley (around the spindle bolt/shaft area) and then Hit the Spindle Bolt/Shaft Again. FYI; I have Ruined a Many Pulleys having to Use Pullers and even having to Cut the Pulleys Off the Spindle Bolts/Shafts. When you Re-Assemble the Spindle, Use Never Seize and Lightly Coat the Inside of the Pulley with it. The Never Seize will Keep the Pulley and Spindle Bolt/Shaft from Seizing Together and the Removal will be Simpler Next Time. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
