Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): honda ems4500, left hand thread, bolt head

Question
QUESTION: I want to remove the non-working generator head from the subject equipment, so I can adapt the engine (GE400) to another project.
Is the retainer bolt (the one that goes through the end bearing)a right or left hand thread.
Any hints on removing generator head in general?

Thanks,

Jack

ANSWER: Hello Jack:

The Bolt Loosens by Turning it in the Same Direction as the Engine Turns During Normal Operation. Once the Bolt is Removed; a Puller is Required to Remove the Generator Armature. You May Require a Puller with "FLAT" Pull Arms. Once you have Pressure on the Puller and the Armature; Hit the Puller and Re-Tighten the Puller Until the Armature Loosens and can be Removed from the Shaft. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

QUESTION: I removed the retainer bolt without any problem. In my ignorance, I don't know where to install the puller. I have removed all the bolts holding the generator stator case to the engine. I dont' know if next I am trying to pull the case off the shaft, the case off the bearing, or the shaft, case and bearing off the engine tapered shaft. If the later, do I  put the retainer bolt back in, screw it almost all the way in, and use the bolt head for the puller to push against?

Answer
Hello Again Jack:

The Puller is Installed so you can Remove the Armature. Replace the Armature Retainer Bolt about 1/2 Way and Use it for the Puller to Push Against it. The Jaws of the Puller Should Pull the Armature. Tighten and Then Hit the Puller Bolt Straight On. Tighten the Puller a Little Moer and Hit Again. Repeat this Process Until the Armature can be Removed by Hand. Usually Twice is Enough to Jar the Armature and Loosen it. Now you can Remove the Stator Case. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower/Engine at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram and Select the Catalog American Honda. Select the Generator File and then Scroll to your Model. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps.
