Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): missing model number, engine model type, montgomery ward

I was given an old montgomery ward riding mower. I would like to get it running again. But the model number is worn off of the model number tag. Is there any way I can find out what model it is? It is an old one.

Answer
If the original engine is still on the mower you can use the engine code/serial number to narrow the search.  If you have a Briggs engine, the first two digits of the code number is the year the engine was manufactured.  

Send me the engine model, type and code number and I will see if I can guess your model number.
