Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): kohler cv15s enine used in john deere lawn tractor, john deere lawn tractor, john deere lawn

Question
the batter light is on most of the time.  i read the voltage at the battery and it is 12.56.  it is 12.56 with the engine not running, too, so the battery is not getting a charge.  where should i check to see if the alternator or  whatever charges it is not working?  can you tell me where to check?

Answer
Hello Mike:

This Addy will Help with the Voltage Check;  http://faqs.custhelp.com/rnt/rnw/img/enduser/105-AC_DC_test_chart.jpg
and this Stite Addy will Show you Where the Regulator and the Stator/Regular are Located on the Engine. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model and Spec Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Usually, Kohler Engine have a Regulator. If this One Does, then it is Most Likely the Voltage Regulator. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
