Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): belt installation Model 8HP 26 SNOW THROWER - 536886280, tension spring, nut bolt

Question
I have a Model 8HP 26" SNOW THROWER - 536886280.  The auger belt needed to be replaced because my blades quit turning.  So, I released the tension spring and removed the old belt.  I then put on the new belt and replaced the tension spring.  After the spring was replaced, the brake pad is not allowing the brake arm rod to come all the way down so that the machine will start.  The brake pad, that has a strange angle is not lining up with the new belt properly.  What do I do now?

Answer
There should be an ajustment on the idler pulley.  Usually loosing the idle pulley nut/bolt will allow you to adjust the tension on the belt.  This may help align the brake.

Is the brake arm cam bent or binding?  Have you removed the brake arm cam and checked for wear?
Let me know if this helps and what you find.
