Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Toro 826 - No spark, engine model type, assembly drawings

Question
I have an older Toro 826 (m# 38150) which I have used faithfully for the past few years.  This year I have been unable to get it started. After many unsuccessful attempts (replaced the sparkplug etc.) I discovered that when the plug was removed and grounded against the side of the tractor, I got no spark when pulled the recoil.  To test to see if it was a safety switch failure, I removed the ground from the ring terminal (because I believe that the shut off is created by the wire being grounded) and tried again. still no spark.  Is this likely a problem in the ignition coil and if so how difficult is that to replace?  There are several Toro 826 ignition coils for sale online.

Answer
Hello Paul:

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/default.cfm and Select Start Parts Viewer. Now Enter the Model Numbers. Now Select View Assembly Drawings. You Said an OLDER Toro, so I Used the 1979 Model 38150 Toro Breakdown. I Looked at Both Engines (8HP and 11HP) and they Both have a Point Set. Change the Point Set. A Coil on this Model Engine RARELY Goes Bad. Usually the Condensor or the Contacts of the Point Set are Bad. Look at the Breakdown for your Year Model Engine. If you Can Not Determine if the Engine has Point Set or Not, Then Send me the Engine Model, Type and Code Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Model Numbers are Usually STAMPED Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) above the Spark Plug. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
