Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Troy Bilt tiller - Tecumseh HH60, troy bilt tiller, engine rpms

Question
QUESTION: I just bought an old Troy Bilt tiller.  (1) How can I telll the model of it?  (2) It has a Tecumseh HH60 - 1050790 engine on it that has the governor - carburetor linkage messed up.  How can I know how it is supposed to be?

ANSWER: Hello Stan:

Tiller model and serial tags are generally on the Tine Housing. Could this be a HH60-105079D Engine? You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the T. Then Select Tecumseh. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Model Numbers (HH60-105079D). Then Select your Model and Download the File for Online Viewing. A Quick Explanation of How the Linkage Works. When Throttling Up the Engine RPMs, the Throttle Cable Moves the Pivot on the Throttle Control Bracket. The Pivot Pulls the Throttle Control Spring. The Spring is Attached to the Governor Arm. The Solid Link Goes from the Governor Arm the the Throttle Control Shaft on the Carburetor. The Throttle Control Shaft Has the Throttle Valve Attached to it Inside the Carburetor. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: John -- Just getting back to you.  There REAL problem was that it had the wrong carburetor on it as I assume the original was destroyed from water in the system.  When i bought a new carburetor of the correct type, the linkage fit very well and it runs like a top.

On any old used machinery, a good question is always, "Has it been modified in ANY way...?"

But it was in good enough shape that I now have a great tiller for much less than a new one and it is better built than the newer ones.  All is well..

Thanks for your help and time.
