Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda BF2D doesnt run at full throttle..., rubber seals, head gasket

Question
Hello,

I was searching for info on this symptom, and came across the exact same one that you answered (Date: 9/17/2006
Subject: Honda 2HP outboard).  The engine only runs at half throttle, or full throttle if the choke is on.  As soon as you push the choke in, it dies.  I took the carb off, soaked it in Seafoam overnight (minus the rubber seals), but when I put it back together and tried it, there was no difference!  Any suggestions??  I tried playing with the mixture screw, but that didn't seem to make any difference. (btw, where should the screw be set at approximately?)

Thanks,
gord.

Answer
Hello Gord:

Send me the Model Numbers Off the Outboard, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. I have Never Used Seafoam for Carburetors. I have Used Gunk for Soaking Carburetors for Over 30 Years. I Use Seafoam in the Spray Can for Rusted Components. The Idle Air and Main Air Mixture Screws are Closed. Then Turned Out 1 1/2 Turns for Initial Setting. Then you make Minor Adjustments from there. What is the Compression? Have you had the Cylinder Head Off? Is the Head Gasket Good? Has the Valve Clearances been Checked? Thanks.
