Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumsah 13hp MTD rider, fuel line filter, blown head gasket

Question
QUESTION: Engine quit while mowing grass (not heavy) & won't restart. Has gas & oil. Changed spark plug (mfg type & gap). The spark plug has spark when grounded. Battery is charged. It is 1998, but no previous problems.

ANSWER: An engine needs 4 things to run properly. Fuel, Air, Compression, and Spark.  All we know now is that you have spark.  With the limited info you gave me this is about all I can tell you.
FYI... 80% of units that come into my shop have fuel problems.

QUESTION: I checked, fuel line, filter and tank are unobstructed (I abreviated this by stating there is fuel and oil). The air filter is clean & I tried started fluid in the carburator, no fire. I pulled the plug and put my finger over the hole and it felt like there was alternating suction and pressure when trying to start it. It may not have been enough, but before I started tearing into it to check points and such and progressing on from there, I thought I would get another opinion.

Answer
My first gues would be a bad exhaust valve or blown head gasket.

No matter what it sounds like you are going to have to pull the head.  The problem will probably be obviuos.

Sorry if I seamed condescending. 80% of the questioners in this forum are idiots.
