Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Spark issue, spark plug, magneto
QuestionI have a Kubota a5000 generator with a spark problem. I took the spark plug out and held it against the frame and it would not spark. I pulled it away slightly and there was a very small spark. I noticed the ground wire from the magneto was disconected. After it was reconnected, I hit the starter and the fram of the engine slightly shocked me. Any thoughts?
thanks
Shane
AnswerI'm guessing you have a break in the plug wire. When you moved the plug away from the engine you moved the broken wire farther from a ground than the end of the plug wire, Hugh? Not sure if that made any sense. When you cranked the engine and got bit, the wire was touching metal again. That spark needed someplace to discharge and you were the closest conductor.
