Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Husky CTH172 cuts out when blades engaged, electric clutch, eric hope

Question
Hi Eric, Hope you can help me please. I have a Husqvarna CTH172 riding mower. The engine cuts out whenever I pull the lever to engage the blades. The under-seat safety switch is tested and good, but I've found the idler pulley is not turning smoothly. So my questions are, could this be causing my problem? And what should I use to lubricate the pulley? There's no mention of this in the routine maintenance section of the manual.

Many thanks for your help,
Bruce

Answer
Most idler pulleys used sealed bearings which you can not lube.  Is there a safety switch on the deck for the blades. Almost all mowers since 1980 have a seat, clutch and deck switch.

Does the mower use an electric clutch to engage the blades or is there a lever you move to engage the blades?
Let me know.
Eric
