Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman tractor needs new engine, briggs stratton, tractor model

I have a Craftsman 42" cut tractor. Model # 917.270860 Serial #
062199C002382. The engine is blown beyond repair so I need a new one but I
was wondering if there is any other engines that would be compatible with
this tractor. The engine that is in it is Briggs & Stratton 20.5 HP.
The model # is 461707 Type 0145E1 Code 9906145A. Thank You

There may be other engines that will fit,but you would have to make some modifications to make it work. Each piece of equipment is built for a certain type of engine.Unfortuneatly Briggs doesn't make a replacement engine.You may have to research your local equipment dealer.
